The run 8 machine WORK IN PROGRESS
Run 8 is the latest model of OSSO, from Oct 26, 2026. It makes the machine smaller and simpler to build and service.
Open source · a design exploration, NOT FOR SALE · AI-driven co-design · not built or tested yet. The full model is coming soon.
What changed in run 8
- Size: about 993 W x 773 D x 1234 H mm overall.
- One frame: the cart and machine share a single frame on 2020/2040 profiles. The middle shelf is removed.
- Left zone: air parts moved to the top. Electronics sit on a removable plate behind the left panel, with filtered cooling air flowing from bottom to top.
- All lines internal: cables and hoses run inside the machine; the outside side guard is gone.
- Screen arm: the touchscreen is on a tilt-and-extend arm that stows in the front niche. The E-stop is on the niche back wall.
- Door: slide-up front door with an internal interlock.
- Panels: 1.5 mm aluminium.
- Laser: unchanged, with manual focus on a clamped slide.
First build
A first build keeps every safety item: door interlock with safety relay, E-stop, key switch and emission lamp, the full enclosure and slide-up door, fume extraction with an airflow switch, and mains separation. Conveniences are optional and can be added later without rework: screen arm, touchscreen HMI, castors and leveling feet, plug-in connector banks, chamber LEDs, tray drive and cassettes, vision cameras, door counterweights.
Bench experiments first
- X/Y motion on the 2020 frame (E-stop wired first)
- Tray slide and drive (optional)
- Manual focus column
- Enclosure, slide-up door and interlock chain
- Fume extraction
- Electronics plate and heated bed thermal tests
- Laser source, base and chiller in the lower bay
